Situated on St Mary’s island right on the estuary of the great Gambia River, connected to the Gambia’s mainland by a bridge to the south and a ferry to the north bank of the river, lays Banjul, Gambia’s small capital city, mostly a hub reserved for the country’s political and economic elite.
