Villavieja is a small town in Huila, located near the edge of the Tatacoa Desert. It serves as the main base for visitors exploring the surrounding arid landscapes. With its hot climate and simple layout, the town offers access to both desert trails and the Magdalena River nearby.
We stayed here for a night during our 2026 road trip. We went out in the evening for food, then walked through the town again after returning from the desert. Finally, we crossed the river by boat, watching the town recede behind us.
