Villanueva, Santander, Colombia (2026) – Photos

Villanueva is a small town in Santander, Colombia, set among rolling hills not far from the Chicamocha Canyon. Compared to quieter nearby villages, it has a more active feel, with a central square that serves as the social hub of daily life. The plaza is framed by low-rise colonial buildings, shaded trees, and a parish church, creating a space where locals gather, vendors pass through, and travelers often pause at the end of long walks along the historic Camino Real routes that connect the region.

We reached Villanueva at the end of our day hike from Barichara via Guane and spent some time around the lively square. We stopped for a coffee, took a few photos, and watched the movement around us before calling it a day. After a short rest, we grabbed a tuk-tuk and headed back to Barichara.
