Villa Restrepo is a small mountain village located above Ibagué in the department of Tolima. Set along a road that climbs into cooler Andean terrain, it is known as a gateway to natural reserves and highland landscapes. The route leading up is popular with cyclists and weekend visitors, especially on busy Sundays when the narrow roads fill with local traffic heading into the hills.
The morning after our night in Ibagué, while Sophie stayed at the hotel to work a shift, I drove up toward Villa Restrepo. The road was busy with cyclists and day trippers, and I moved slowly through the curves. I reached the village, stepped out for a short stroll, and lingered briefly before heading back down.
