After a few days in São Paulo, we continued our journey to the State of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil. Numerous buses, operated by various companies, run daily from São Paulo to Florianópolis, the capital of Santa Catarina. As we often do on long bus trips, we opted for a night bus to sleep through the ride and save on accommodation.

We booked an 8 p.m. route through this site—the only one we found that didn’t require a CPF to process the reservation. The ticket cost 151.77 reais (≈$26). We arrived at São Paulo’s Tietê bus terminal (located here) a few hours before departure. Like in Rio, the terminal was enormous, resembling an international airport, with numerous shops and restaurants. However, unlike Rio’s terminal, this one also offered free toilets and WiFi.
Finding the platform and boarding was straightforward. The bus interior was spacious and comfortable. We settled into the reclining seats and hit the road. Around midnight, we stopped at a modern, expansive service station. The food selection was abundant, but having already eaten before departure, we simply treated ourselves to an overpriced Milka chocolate.
We then slept through the rest of the journey, waking after dawn on the outskirts of Florianópolis, where we encountered a massive traffic jam. It took another two hours of inching forward before we finally reached the terminal at 9 am, completing a 13-hour journey. After a coffee, we checked into our beautiful yet budget-friendly accommodation, which would serve as our base for the next week as we explored Florianópolis and Santa Catarina Island.
