A collection of pictures I took in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Browse hundreds of more photo albums from my trips around the world using the submenu above or the Photo Albums Map at the bottom of the page.
Tashkent, the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan, is a bustling metropolis that blends Soviet-era architecture with modern urban development. Though much of the city was rebuilt following a devastating earthquake in 1966, Tashkent retains its historic charm in places like the Old City, where the Khast Imam complex and Chorsu Bazaar offer a window into the past. As the cultural and political heart of the country, Tashkent is home to museums, theaters, and vibrant markets. Its tree-lined streets and Soviet-style apartment blocks contrast with contemporary skyscrapers and shopping malls, reflecting the city’s evolving identity. Despite its modernity, Tashkent remains deeply rooted in Uzbekistan’s rich history and traditions.
