A collection of pictures I took in Old Grand Port, Mauritius. Browse hundreds of more photo albums from my trips around the world using the submenu above or the Photo Albums Map at the bottom of the page.
Old Grand Port is a historic village on the southeastern coast of Mauritius, known as the site of the first Dutch landing in 1598. This area is rich in history, with ruins of ancient fortifications and the remnants of old settlements that tell the story of Mauritius’ colonial past. Visitors can explore the Frederik Hendrik Museum, which showcases artifacts from the early Dutch, French, and British periods. The tranquil village, with its scenic views of the bay and the lush green landscape, offers a glimpse into the island’s early days and its strategic importance in the Indian Ocean.
