A collection of pictures I took in Karakol, Kyrgyzstan. Browse hundreds of more photo albums from my trips around the world using the submenu above or the Photo Albums Map at the bottom of the page.
Karakol, located on the eastern tip of Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul Lake, is a charming town surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. It is often considered the gateway to the Terskey Alatau mountain range and a starting point for trekking adventures in the region. The town itself has a relaxed, multicultural vibe, reflected in its blend of Russian Orthodox churches, such as the striking wooden Holy Trinity Cathedral, and Dungan mosques with Chinese architectural influence. Karakol’s Sunday animal market is a popular local event, drawing traders from nearby villages. The town serves as a perfect base for exploring both alpine meadows and the shores of Issyk-Kul.
