A collection of pictures I took in Grand Bassin, Mauritius. Browse hundreds of more photo albums from my trips around the world using the submenu above or the Photo Albums Map at the bottom of the page.
Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, is a sacred lake nestled in the mountainous southwest of Mauritius. This serene body of water is one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimage sites outside of India. During the Maha Shivaratri festival, thousands of devotees trek here from all over the island. The area is enveloped in a tranquil atmosphere, enhanced by the towering statue of Lord Shiva and various other deities that adorn the site. The calm, reflective surface of the lake, combined with the lush greenery surrounding it, creates a profoundly spiritual experience for visitors.
