Mirador San José is a quiet viewpoint located just northeast of Guatapé in Antioquia, Colombia, overlooking the branching waters of the Guatapé Reservoir and the surrounding hills. Reached by rural paths rather than major roads, it offers a more secluded alternative to the region’s busier lookout points. The setting is defined by forested slopes, scattered farmland, and wide openings toward the water, where the irregular shoreline creates layered views across the landscape.
We visited on an overcast morning during our weeklong stay in Guatapé and set out on foot along the trail. We spent a couple of hours walking through quiet stretches of nature, moving steadily toward the viewpoint. I stopped often to take in the views as they opened up between the trees and along the ridges. The area felt calm and removed, and we stayed for a while before heading back the same way.
