Makrys Gialos Beach (or Makrygialos) lies on the eastern coast of northern Evia, between the villages of Vlachia and Sarakiniko. It is 70 km from Chalkida and 148 km from Athens. Secluded and offering ample shade, it’s ideal for wild campers.

The beach sits within a small cove and stretches about 500 meters long and 20 meters wide on average. It’s covered in coarse sand and fine pebbles. The water is crystal clear and deepens quickly, as with most of Evia’s Aegean coastline. Facing due north, the beach offers a beautiful view of the Sporades across the horizon.
With a northern orientation and steep cliffs along its back, Makrygialos stays shady for much of the day. At its edge, you’ll find thick underbrush and a forested stream bed—ideal for camping. Each summer, a small community of wild campers sets up here.

Beyond the cape at the beach’s western end lies a smaller, more secluded beach called Potami, reachable via a trail. Further west still, you’ll find a tiny beach named Steno Linari, nestled in a small cove before the main beach of Vlachia.

Vlachia is the nearest village, just 3 kilometers away.

How to Get There
From Chalkida, take the road to northern Evia via Prokopi, then turn right toward Pili and Vlachia. About 3 km past Vlachia, when you see a mini market on your left and a church on your right, you’ve arrived. Alternatively, you can take the coastal road from Psachna to Limnionas, continuing on through Sarakiniko and Vlachia. Though shorter in distance, this route usually takes longer. From Athens, the total drive via the first route takes about 2.5 hours at a reasonable pace.
There is no bus service to Vlachia. If you’re planning a road trip on Evia and haven’t got a car already, you can compare some of the best rental deals here.
Accommodation
Makrygialos is perfect for wild camping. There is no formal accommodation on the beach itself. At present, only two places are available in nearby Vlachia:

Food
In summer, Makrygialos usually has one tavern, a canteen, and a café-mini market in operation. In the village of Vlachia, there’s also a year-round tavern.
