Madrid, the capital of Spain, is a city of broad boulevards, grand squares, and expansive parks, balanced by lively residential neighbourhoods and a rich cultural heritage. From landmarks such as Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor to the tree-lined paths of El Retiro Park, the city combines historic architecture with an energetic urban atmosphere. Its walkable centre makes it easy to explore on foot, revealing both famous monuments and the everyday life that unfolds between them.
I spent four days in Madrid in May 2026, exploring the city almost entirely on foot. I walked extensively through several central neighbourhoods, parks, and public spaces, photographing both well-known landmarks and ordinary street scenes along the way. The photographs reflect the variety of the city, moving between historic architecture, green spaces, and the everyday rhythm of life in the Spanish capital.
