Lagoa do Peri is the second largest lagoon on the island of Florianópolis—overshadowed in fame by Lagoa da Conceição, but no less worth a visit. Tucked into the island’s southeast corner, it’s surrounded by lush hills, preserved forest, and that warm hush you only find in places not trying too hard to impress you.

There’s a hiking trail that begins up in Sertão do Ribeirão (trailhead location), descending to the lagoon and tracing its southeastern coast through sections of Atlantic Forest that feel more untouched than curated. We were planning to walk it, but the weather had taken an ominous turn by the time we arrived in the area, following a morning of brilliant sunshine in the historic village of Ribeirao da Ilha. The storm didn’t materialize in the end, but the threat of it forced us to change plan and only visit Lagoa do Peri briefly during our looping scooter trip around the south of the island—part of our weeklong stay in Florianópolis.

The municipal park is located on the northeastern shore of the lagoon, not far from Armação Beach. There’s a bit of parking space just off the main road and a paid lot inside the gate, where a small restaurant and reception area mark the entrance (location).

The woods near the entrance are lively with black-tufted marmoset monkeys (Callithrix penicillata)—little acrobats that seem equally curious and indifferent to humans. They darted between the trees, rustled leaves overhead, and occasionally paused to stare back at us with vaguely judgmental expressions. The park had picnic tables scattered beneath the trees, a few shelters, and well-maintained paths.

The beach itself was peaceful and clean, with calm, shallow waters ideal for swimming or floating aimlessly. Only a couple of companies were present and some guys renting out kayaks and swan-shaped pedal boats. It’s a spot that doesn’t ask much of you—just to slow down a little and enjoy being where the road stops.
