Kernitsa Monastery is a historic Orthodox monastery in Arcadia, Greece, set on a wooded hillside near the Menalon Mountain Trail. Founded centuries ago, it is known for its peaceful surroundings, traditional architecture, and close connection to the region’s religious heritage. Although many hikers encounter it while walking between Nymfasia and Magouliana, the monastery is also an appealing destination in its own right, offering a quiet setting among the fir-covered slopes.
During our multi-day hiking trip along the Menalon Mountain Trail in May 2026, we visited the monastery by car because we had decided to skip the trail section that normally passes through it. We spent a couple of relaxing hours exploring the grounds and enjoying the calm atmosphere before continuing with the rest of our journey.
