Kallianos Beach: One of Southern Evia's Most Beautiful Beaches

Kallianos Beach is one of the most remote beaches in southern Evia, tucked beneath the steep eastern slopes of Mount Ochi where the Dimosaris Gorge meets the Aegean Sea. Despite being accessible by asphalt road, its isolated location keeps visitor numbers low, even during the peak of summer. If you’re looking for a quiet beach surrounded by rugged mountains rather than organized resorts, this is one of the best options in the region.

The beach stretches for around 250 metres and reaches about 90 metres at its widest point. It consists of a mix of coarse sand and pebbles, with deep, clear water that quickly turns dark blue offshore. From the shore, you get uninterrupted views along Evia’s wild east coast, while on clear days Skyros can be seen on the horizon.

A small stream flowing out of the Dimosaris Gorge reaches the sea at the eastern end of the beach, providing cool freshwater beside the shore. At the opposite end, the beach narrows beneath steep rocky cliffs, behind which lies a tiny hidden cove with a tiny beach and a cave that remains out of sight from the main beach.

Although there is no accommodation at the beach itself, a tiny settlement lies a few hundred metres inland. During the summer, a single canteen operates there, offering drinks, snacks, and simple meals. Wild camping has long been popular at Kallianos Beach, but while it remains common, it is technically illegal in Greece, and enforcement has become noticeably stricter since 2025.

You can reach Kallianos Beach in two ways. Hikers often arrive by descending the roughly 10 km-long Dimosaris Gorge from the slopes of Mount Ochi, finishing directly at the sea. Alternatively, you can drive via the Marmari–Amygdalia road. The entire route is paved, although it takes around an hour from either Marmari or Karystos because of the winding mountain roads.
