Juanchaco is one of the main villages on Colombia’s Pacific coast near Buenaventura and serves as a transport hub for nearby beaches and coastal communities. Ferries arrive daily from the mainland, bringing visitors and supplies into a settlement of sandy streets, wooden buildings, small shops, and boats pulled close to shore. Compared with nearby villages, Juanchaco feels more active and connected, especially around the waterfront.
We visited Juanchaco a few times in March 2026 while staying nearby in Ladrilleros for a week. I walked along the beach and through the narrow sandy streets with my camera, photographing everyday life and the movement around the village. Each visit felt slightly different depending on the tide, the weather, and the number of people arriving from the boats.
