Jordán, Santander, Colombia (2026) – Photos

Jordán is a tiny municipality in Santander, northeastern Colombia, set deep inside the Chicamocha Canyon, one of the country’s best-known landscapes. The canyon stretches for about 227 kilometers and reaches depths of roughly 2,000 meters, with a dry, hot climate in its lower sections, which helps explain the stark terrain around the village. Jordán has long carried a “ghost town” reputation because of its very small population, yet its position within the gorge gives it an unusual presence: a settlement that feels both isolated and closely tied to the road and river corridor of the canyon.

We reached Jordán early in the morning on a motorbike day trip from Bucaramanga and felt the heat almost right away. We stayed a couple of hours, walked the village’s few streets, and found it more lively than its reputation suggested. I stopped often to look at the walls, the slope of the ground, and the way the settlement sat inside the gorge. We flew our drone and saw some of our best views from above, with the village held tightly within the vast lines of the Chicamocha.
