Day #16 (5/7/20)
Distance travelled: 21.1 km
Today’s events can be summarised into a few short paragraphs, as we did not venture far. We decided our beach camping spot needed a longer than a one-night stay due to its astounding, serene beauty.
Dogs and the odd car could be heard close to the tent in the early hours of this morning. For our breakfast, shortly after waking up, we enjoyed the pomelo fruit we bought yesterday. I quickly realised that I’ve had this fruit before, a few years ago in India, where it was a lot cheaper but tasted just the same. After a short spell of reading, when the heat started to build up, we enjoyed a swim in the calm, clear water. From the sea, we got to properly take in the view back on land; a cluster of tall, green palm trees lined the beach, and two wild green mountains stood tall by the southern end of it. In that direction, we spotted a human couple and several dogs walking on the pebbles.
Once we packed the car and cleaned up the mess the dogs had made of our rubbish bag, we headed to the village to work in a coffee place called Bang Pang. After a few hours there, we walked past a market being set up for the night and headed to a restaurant for lunch. A lady served us a delicious bowl of egg noodle soup – so much so that I ordered a second one while Dimi ordered an extra plate of pork and rice. We also got to witness many storks bathing in a swamp across the road.
Heading back to the car, we stopped at the market to buy some funky looking fruit and went to 7/11 to buy bread and crisps to make butties for tea… classic! When we returned to the beach, a small family sat near our camping spot, having food. Once we pitched the tent up, we went straight into the water for a good swim and a cool down.
After tea, we watched the full moon rise up, but our peace was disturbed by the mozzies. So we hurried on inside the tent to read. The Asian tiger mosquito – as pretty as she is, she was a complete pain in the ass, as all mozzies are!!! Once the coast was clear of mozzies, we went back into the sea for a night dip and finished our night stargazing. We slept heavily thereafter.
