Imbabura Volcano rises above the northern Ecuadorian Andes near Ibarra and the village of Esperanza. This prominent stratovolcano is one of the defining landmarks of Imbabura Province, with slopes shaped by highland farmland, páramo, and open mountain terrain. Its summit reaches 4,630 meters, and the volcano holds strong cultural significance in the region, where it is often linked with local identity and Indigenous traditions.
We went on a day trek up Imbabura Volcano and reached the first peak, where we stopped because of the weather. The trip was long, around eight hours there and back, with the photographs following the climb through changing mountain conditions. It became one of the more demanding days of our journey through Ecuador, but also one of the clearest memories from our stay near Esperanza.
