Guane, Santander, Colombia (2026) – Photos

Guane is a small colonial village in Santander, Colombia, located a few kilometers from Barichara along the historic Camino Real. Known for its quiet atmosphere and preserved architecture, the village centers on a modest main square framed by whitewashed buildings, clay-tiled roofs, and a simple parish church. Once an important indigenous settlement, Guane now feels largely untouched by time, with a handful of streets that reflect traditional rural life and offer a brief, calm pause for travelers moving through the region.

We visited it on a midday after a morning hike from Barichara and checked out the main square and adjacent streets. We stopped for a coffee and a light snack by the square and sat for a while before moving on. The place felt still and unhurried, and after a short rest, we picked up our route again and continued toward Villanueva.
