After about two weeks in Córdoba and the hippie village of San Marcos Sierras, it was time to continue our journey through northern Argentina. Our next stop was the city of Santa Fe, and we had a long trip ahead of us.
Starting before dawn and changing two local buses, it took us five hours to reach Córdoba’s bus terminal (located here) in the morning. We had an hour to spare before the departure of the direct bus to Santa Fe, which we had booked online through this site. Several companies operate this route at various times throughout the day and night, with ticket prices ranging from €16 to €24. We traveled with one called Crucero del Sur. After grabbing a quick breakfast, we boarded and hit the road again.
As the bus pulled out of the terminal and merged onto the highway, the landscape slowly unfurled around us—flat, endless plains brushed with golden grasses and dotted occasionally with lone trees that stood like punctuation marks on a blank page. In the distance, low hills shimmered under the morning haze, their outlines soft and hesitant, as if unsure whether to fully appear. Sleepy towns drifted past the windows, their faded signs and quiet streets hinting at lives unfolding at a gentler pace.
Another five hours after leaving Córdoba—and twelve hours since we’d left last night’s lodging—we finally arrived in Santa Fe just as darkness fell. We walked a few blocks to our accommodation and collapsed into bed, resting up for our one full day to explore the city tomorrow.
