Craiova is one of the largest cities in southwestern Romania and the historic centre of the Oltenia region. Known for its elegant nineteenth-century architecture, broad squares, and leafy parks, the city combines a lively urban atmosphere with a compact historic core that is easy to explore on foot. Landmarks such as Mihai Viteazul Square and Nicolae Romanescu Park reflect the city’s cultural heritage, while its streets offer a mix of historic buildings and everyday Romanian city life.
I had a long layover in Craiova, so I took a bus from the airport into the city early in the morning and spent most of the day exploring on foot. I walked through the centre for hours, photographing both its landmarks and the everyday scenes that caught my attention before returning to the airport to continue my journey.
