Cotopaxi National Park lies in Ecuador’s central Andes, southeast of Quito, around Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the country’s most recognizable peaks. The park protects high-altitude páramo, volcanic plains, wetlands, and wildlife habitats, with broad views shaped by ash slopes and open mountain light. Laguna de Limpiopungo, set below Cotopaxi and near Rumiñahui, is one of its best-known landscape features and a common stop for visitors exploring the northern side of the park.
We entered Cotopaxi National Park twice from the northern checkpoint while staying in the region. One visit led toward hiking Cotopaxi itself, and the other toward Rumiñahui. The photographs focus on the area from the checkpoint and the lower slopes below the volcano, including Laguna de Limpiopungo and the open páramo landscape around it.
