Chicamocha Canyon, Santander, Colombia (2026) – Photos

Chicamocha Canyon is one of Colombia’s most striking natural landmarks, located in the department of Santander near Bucaramanga. Carved by the Chicamocha River, it stretches for more than 200 kilometers and plunges to depths of around 2,000 meters, creating a dry, rugged landscape that contrasts with the country’s greener regions. The canyon is also home to Parque Nacional del Chicamocha (PANACHI), a viewpoint and tourist complex known for its cable car crossing high above the gorge, offering wide views over the steep slopes and winding river below.

We visited on a day trip from Bucaramanga, driving down the winding road all the way to Jordán and then back up toward the viewpoint where the cable car station sits. We stopped at several points to look out across the canyon and followed the paths around the tourist area. We had lunch right at the edge, sitting with a clear view over the drop and watching the landscape stretch out in front of us.
