Carbonera Valley is a high-altitude valley on the slopes of the Central Andes, located between Quindío and Tolima. It is known for its dense wax palm forests and expansive mountain views, often less crowded than Cocora. The terrain includes steep roads, forest tracks, and waterfalls, making it popular for mixed transport routes involving jeeps and biking.
We visited on a day tour from Salento in February 2026. We rode up by jeep, then biked downhill toward El Gallego and the Carbonera waterfall. After climbing back up by jeep, we descended again by bike toward Salento. The weather was exceptionally clear, and we caught a distant glimpse of snowcapped peaks.
