While recently in Rome, I happened to stay at Camping Village Roma for a few days. I found and booked that place on Hostelworld, where it was registered under the name PLUS Camping Roma instead.
It is located in Via Aurelia, in the west outskirts of Rome, quite far out from the city centre. However, getting to and fro the city centre from there is fairly simple and fast. The tube line A runs between the city and Cornelia station. And bus #246 from Cornelia stops at Stazione Aurelia station, right in front of the camping site and the supermarket across the street.
Arriving there, initially, the whole place seemed to me kinda weird. It was something about the serious-looking guards by the entrance and the queues of people waiting before the reception’s glass-facaded counters, which made this place resemble more to some civil service headquarters than a holiday resort, or even less so a hostel – which was the thing I booked it for.
After all, I found it quite a cool place though. Sure, communication with the staff was somewhat defective: apart from some African chaps sweeping the fallen leaves, no one didn’t seem quite happy speaking to you. But otherwise it was an agreeable and fun place. Plus, its prices are very competitive for Rome.
It is a spacious area with a restaurant, a swimming pool, and neat gardens all over the place. It offers camping spots for campers and tents. And also has cabins and dormitory-style assembled tents for rent.
What I found quite interesting and unique about this place was the astounding amplitude of its guests. Whereas each accommodation provider tends to generally favor some particular type of guests, at that place you could see just about anyone: From the group of retired people touring collectively on buses; to the casual husband-wife-and-2-3-children German family touring through Italy with their campervan; to the 18-year-old backpackers roaming around Europe on trains, drinking and partying hard every night; to the reckless traveler, weary of traveling non-stop for years, always counting their last penny… everyone was there.
Overall, I enjoyed my time staying at Camping Village Roma. And I would stay there again if the occasion comes along.
