Barichara, Santander, Colombia (2026) – Photos

Barichara is a municipality in the department of Santander, Colombia, situated on a plateau above the Suárez River valley in the Eastern Ranges of the Andes. The town is characterized by its colonial-era urban layout: narrow, cobblestone streets, whitewashed stone houses with clay-tile roofs, and a central park framed by a late 18th–19th century cathedral. Its setting near a steep gorge provides recurring elevated viewpoints over the surrounding canyon and agricultural terraces.

The visit occurred in January 2026 and lasted three days, during which I walked extensively through the town and its immediate surroundings. Photographs document the principal public spaces and viewpoints: the main park and cathedral, Parque para las Artes, Bioparque Moncora, the municipal cemetery, and the small hilltop chapels of Santa Bárbara and San Antonio. Images also record street-level details of facades, doorways, and the patterns of the town’s lanes, alongside shots toward the gorge.
