Buses from Athens run frequently to Kalamata, the main transport hub of the southern Peloponnese. Train services on this route have been out of operation for years, so the bus is the only public transport option. Departures leave from the Kifissos Bus Terminal in Athens (📍map). You can reach the terminal by taking Metro Line 3 to Elaionas, then either walking about 1.5 km or transferring to bus 052. The X93 airport bus also stops at the terminal.

Kalamata to Methoni Bus
From Kalamata, you continue south on a regional bus operated by Messenia KTEL. The ride to Methoni takes approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs €6.60. Tickets can be bought directly at the Kalamata bus station or online when the booking system is functioning.
Many services on this route have Finikounta as their final destination, with Methoni served as an intermediate stop. In some timetables, this is indicated as a connection rather than a terminus, which is normal for the line.
