Alykes Beach is located 11 kilometers outside of Chalkida, near the village of Drosia, in the mainland part of the Prefecture of Evia Island. Endowed with generous natural beauty and equipped with modern shops and tourist infrastructure, Alykes is a popular destination for local, Athenian, as well as foreign excursionists and vacationers.
The beach is one kilometer long and fifty meters wide at maximum. Inside and outside the sea, it is completely covered by fine white sand with scarce stones. The bottom has a smooth slope and remains shallow for a considerable distance. As the awarded Blue Flag indicates, the water is crystal clear.
The orientation of the beach is northwest. It looks out to the North Euboean Gulf, Mount Messapion (or Chtypas) rising high just beyond the end of the beach, and the precipitous Mount Kandylio on the opposite side of the gulf.
Alykes is an organized beach. The largest part of it is occupied by parasols and sunbeds belonging to one of the six beach bars: Sabbia, Mistral, Bora Bora, Anima, Daluz, and by far the oldest, original Ippokampos which gives the beach its alternative name. The sunbeds are usually free, and the bars only charge for the order. But on certain weekends during the peak season, some bars may charge separately for the sunbed. Anyhow, there is always enough space to set up your own beach umbrella at the edges of the beach or in the strips between the bars.
The beach also has swimming pools, beach volleyball nets, water sports equipment, an inflatable water park, and a lifeguard tower. There are also paintball facilities near the beach. On weekends the shops often host beach volleyball and racquetball tournaments during the day, and parties and concerts at night.
On summer weekends, Alykes is crowded. There are often kilometers-long traffic jams at the access to the beach, and parking spaces are occupied along its entire length. Weekdays are generally relaxed.
West of Alykes, the coastal road leads to the luxurious village of Skroponeria. Several quieter beaches, such as Anthidona and Loukisia, are located along it. East of Alykes, the coastal road encircles the Drosia peninsula and passes several more small beaches, such as Bournontas and Valopoulas, until it ends at Agios Minas.

How to get there
The distance from Athens to Alykes is 85 kilometers and the route takes one hour at a reasonable speed. You drive towards Chalkida, but you take the last exit right before you cross the bridge. Then you continue straight ahead following signs for Drosia and Alykes. See the route on Google Maps.
You can also go to Alykes without a car by a city bus that you catch from either the bus or the railway station in Chalkida. Within the center of Chalkida, the bus also stops at the National Bank on Venizelou Street and at the Palirroia Hotel. See the routes here.
Accommodation
There are no hotels in Alykes and the wider area, but several houses and villas are available for rent. The following are the ones right in front of the beach:

Food
Apart from the beach bars, which serve a wide variety of food, in Alykes there is also a tavern/grill place called Alitogevsis Stin Thalassa, as well as two kiosks-minimarkets in front of Ippokambos and Daluz. There are more good taverns and restaurants in Drosia and Agios Minas villages.
