Bukhara, another ancient Silk Road city, is a UNESCO World Heritage site celebrated for its well-preserved medieval architecture. With over 140 monuments, Bukhara offers a glimpse into Central Asia’s Islamic past. The city’s historic center is anchored by the Poi-Kalyan complex, with its iconic 12th-century Kalyan minaret, which once guided caravans across the desert. Other notable landmarks include the Ark Fortress, the Lyab-i Hauz plaza, and the Mir-i-Arab Madrasah. Bukhara is also known for its bustling bazaars and traditional crafts, particularly textiles and carpets. Its labyrinthine streets, ancient mosques, and madrasahs evoke the atmosphere of a city where time has stood still.
