Not to be confused with the homonymous beach of Mesochori in southern Evia, here we are talking about Limnionas Beach in north-central Evia. This is located on the east coast of central Evia, near the villages of Agia Sofia and Myloi, between the beaches of Sarakiniko to the north and Akti to the south.
The beach of Limnionas is approximately 600 meters long and 100 meters wide. The beach is divided in the middle by a characteristic large rock decorated with a Greek flag, which lends itself to beautiful photos and pleasant jumps into the sea. The coast consists of small pebbles and coarse dark sand.
The beach is surrounded by landscapes of incredible natural beauty. Rough slopes rise steeply behind it. The local river flows into the southern edge of the beach, and its bed is lined with giant planes and other trees. The craggy mountains of central Evia, including Dirfys, are visible to the south. The majestic expanse of the Aegean Sea occupies most of the marine horizon, with Skyros and the eastern Sporades islands faintly visible at either end. Only imperceptible glimmers of large villages break the horizon’s blackness at night.
The sea is crystal-clear and deep. You can’t stand anymore at 2-3 steps, and its clarity allows sighting of the bottom at more than ten meters of depth. Marine life thrives and offers good viewing opportunities for the diver.
Within the rock on the northern side of the bay, around 15 minutes of swimming away, a wide, spectacular cave is formed. Its entrance is only half a meter high at low tide and is not easy to spot if you don’t know where it is in advance. If the beach is busy, though, you’ll definitely see others going there, making you aware of its location.
Limnionas is a popular destination for summer holidays, especially due to its relative proximity to Athens. During July and August, on the weekends it’s usually crowded, while a few people are always present even on weekdays.
Infrastructure is minimal and includes a few accommodations, 2-3 taverns and cafes, and two public showers. Parking is plentiful along the beach road, as well as in designated car parks. But on high summer weekends, available specks can often be limited.
Nudism is not recommended in Limnionas. Although nudists can occasionally be seen on quieter days in the off-season, the nearby Akti Beach, which is only accessible on foot and is usually empty, is a better choice for privacy lovers.
The forest fires that plagued Northern Evia in 2021, fortunately, did not affect Limnionas. The fire remained about 30 km away during its maximum spread.

How to get there
Limnionas is located 124 km from Athens. The journey takes about two hours at a reasonable speed. From Chalkida, take the main road to North Evia until Psachna. From there, follow signs to Kontodespoti and Limnionas, which lead you to the beach via a fantastic alpine route. Although narrow and winding, the road is paved and generally in good condition for vehicles of all types.
Accommodation
Free camping
Free camping is not normally permitted in Limnionas. However, it is completely commonplace. The majority of visitors choose to camp. At the height of summer, there can be over a hundred tents and many caravans all over the beach at any given time.
Shade is not abundant on the beach. The best shelter, if you are fast or lucky, is in the copse under the rocks at the northern beach end. Otherwise, apart from a few small trees on the roadside, you only get by with parasols and canopies. If you are camping for several days, you’ll be better off setting up a little further along the river bed which has plenty of vegetation.
Hotels & Apartments
In recent years a few properties have appeared on the hill above the southern end of the beach, which are available for rent through Booking or Airbnb. Lithoktiston and Alissachne Suites are the most luxurious and comfortable options. The cheaper options are Dialiskari and Kapetaniou Apartments.

Food
Several taverns operate at Limnionas during the summer. Apart from the one located in the middle of the beach, most are concentrated where the road meets the sea at the beach’s southern end. In the small cove behind the rock, there is also a nice beach bar. Although you may find some simple edibles and groceries for sale on-site, it is better to bring supplies from Chalkida or Psachna.
