Yesterday I received an email from Spotify for Artists that was titled “A curator is waiting for you!”
The only communication I typically receive from Spotify consists of the monthly reports and issues, as well as the occasional notification of the “your music is scheduled for release” kind.
This was something new. I clicked to take a look. The content of the email read as follows:
A CURATOR IS WAITING FOR YOU
We invite you to join “Hits 2023” playlist with a monthly reach of 80-100k listeners.
Last chance to message the curator if you want the placement (24 hours left until launch)
This offer is limited to only 3 slots.
The playlist curator is waiting on you!

It seemed and sounded a bit tacky to begin with, but it took me reading until the third sentence to become suspicious and until the fourth one to become certain that it was a scam.
Sure enough, I checked the sender’s address and it was [email protected]… Come on now, seriously?
Additionally, I then noticed that the sender was named Spotify for Artist instead of Spotify for Artists (plural), which is the legit and grammatically sound name that Spotify uses.
Just a cheap phishing attempt. They want you to click and then probably ask you to fill out some form with all sorts of info like bank details. If I had a bit more time, I would click to check it out deeper and perhaps have some good fun like I often do with my scambaiting operations. But in this case, I just left it there and deleted the email.
There is also an additional, less likely possibility that they aren’t scammers but mere spammers: some junk music promotion company of sorts.
Anyhow, nothing serious. Just ignore them.
