Travel makes the world go round, and don’t you forget it! Travel has become a major part of my life, and it’s something I feel I need to share with others.
I think everyone who has to chance to should go travelling at some point in their lives. It’s the perfect way of finding out who you are as a person and getting to know more about alternative cultures.
The thing I love about a lot of travel experiences these days is just how varied they are. You could be lying on a beach in Spain, or backpacking through the south of France, and you’d have two entirely different but equally important experiences.
Activity adventures are all the rage right now, so I’ve decided to compile a list of 6 of the best activities that all adventurers should try.
1. Mountain biking
Mountain biking is one of those awesome pursuits that lets you be at one with nature as much as possible while still being active. Now, if you’re going to indulge in mountain biking for your next experience, I would recommend choosing somewhere with epic trails and breathtaking views. New Zealand-based company Vertigo Bikes offers some wonderful bike hire options you can choose to cycle the stunning route around Lake Wakatipu. Magical!
2. Safari adventure
So many people have safaris on their bucket list, and it’s not difficult to understand why. This is the perfect adventure to help you get up close and personal with the more primal aspects of nature. Seeing so many majestic animals in their natural habitat is one of the greatest experiences in the world.
Africa is absolutely the place to choose for breathtaking, tailor-made safari adventures, and there are so many countries providing epic adventures across savannahs and sprawling plains. Make the most of this today!
3. Swim with beasts of the deep
I would recommend that anybody who is an adventurer or thrill-seeker at heart to experience swimming with animals, be they dolphins or sharks. This isn’t thrill-seeking in the same way as skiing over an icy tundra, but it’s still an amazing experience — take it from me. A few years ago I got to go shark diving in Gansbaai, South Africa, and it was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. This is something I would recommend to anybody who has an appetite for adventure.
4. Volcano hiking
Yes, this is just as downright awesome as it sounds! With volcano hiking, you do actually get to hike up and along an active volcano. Being this close to nature’s primal power is something that shouldn’t be taken lightly.
Indonesia is one of the best places to go for volcano hiking, despite the regular eruptions. In fact, you could look into volcano hiking in Bali. Mount Batur takes about two hours to hike, and, with an elevation of 1,717m, it is one of the most popular choices. Volcano hiking is a stunning experience, and something I have no doubt all adventurous travellers will love.
5. Skiing
Skiing is a popular pursuit these days, and every year the numbers seem to grow. The luxury aspect of skiing mixed with the thrill of something active and the awesome grandeur of nature is something that appeals to many people.
There are so many destinations that are popular for skiing every year, and if you go to Europe, Germany is one of the best places to go, with over 14.5 million people taking to the German slopes every year.
6. Norwegian fjords
The Norwegian fjords are one of the defining appeals of Scandinavia, and reason alone to head to Norway, I think. With wonderfully diverse landscapes, and journeys by land, sea, and rail, this is a once in a lifetime adventure that will change your life. Look, I’m going to level with you, Norway is expensive, but it’s worth it for this magical experience alone.
These are 6 of the top activities that I would highly recommend anyone tries on their travels. You get to combine the passion and thrill of adventure with the cultural importance of travelling, and this is something not a lot of people will get to do.
