San Marino is an independent micro-state enclave in Italy. In 301 AD, a declared-as-a-saint stonemason named Marinus and his Christian followers climbed up the natural fortress of the then known as Mount Titano contemporary San Marino, seeking refuge from the persecution of emperor Diocletian. Thus they saved their heads and moved on with founding a republic which today righteously lays claim of being the world’s oldest extant sovereign state.
It was a hard ride cycling up the steep roads leading to the rock’s top. But the day we spent in this tiny country was rewarding. You will here see a few pictures I took while in San Marino. And you can furthermore read here the story of that day.
