Pesaro is the second-most populous city in the region of Marche in Italy after the capital, Ancona. While cycling along the endless sandy beach of the coast of Marche, by afternoon that day, we ended up in the city of Pesaro. Pesaro may be regarded as a special city for cyclists. It has been rewarded with the ‘City of Bicycle’ title by Legambiente: the most important ecological society in Italy, due to its maintaining a very extensive bicycle path network and being the city with the widest bicycle usage in Italy. Cycling on these paths, we ended up at Flaminia Beach by the northern extremity of the city, right before the foot of San Bartolo Mountain. As that was a free beach (which is quite a rarity in Italy), we settled there, under one of the few salt cedar trees to be found on the beach. Only later, by sunset, we left that spot and cycled a little further out of town where we camped on a remote field by the northern end of Monte San Bartolo Regional Park.
